"The more you praise and celebrate life, the more there is in life to celebrate." Opray Winfrey
This past week Mike Houge (www.mikehouge.typepad.com) took a road trip together to Orange City to photograph tulips, a place that celebrates their Dutch heritage with an annual Tulip Festival. Making our decision wasn't easy since the weather was windy, cold and cloudy with intermitten rains. But, we both wanted to get out, talk about photography and check out the tulips and that was a reasonable excuse. As it turned out it was the best choice we could have made.
As we expected the tulips were closed, but the tulip beds were plentiful and inviting. I had been thinking about an ebook that I had purchased from Denise Ippolito's website ( http://deniseippolito.com/ ) about flower photography in which she discusses looking for difference in subjects and that seemed to be my plan of attack for the day. While that may have been my plan, both Mike and I realized (post shoot) that the day was more about learning that "conditions", meaning the weather kind, can be reasons to celebrate.
This day was about education and the celebration of learning, especially about working WITH conditions, that we might have otherwise avoided. We were both engaged in find solutions, changing pre-conceived ideas and really engaging our creative vision.
Sometimes in life we all forget to see the positives ahead and on this day both Mike and myself came away with more than we had ever expected.

Thanks for the visit, Mike. It certainly was a big afternoon for shooting tulips. I certainly enjoyed the outing.
